Trauma & EMDR Therapy
Trauma can continue to affect how we feel, think, respond and relate to others long after a difficult experience has ended. Trauma-informed counselling and EMDR therapy can help you understand these reactions, process distressing experiences and reduce the hold that the past may still have on your present life.
Signs Trauma May Still Be Affecting You
You may consider seeking support if you notice:
Intrusive memories, distressing thoughts or recurring reminders of past experiencesFeeling constantly on guard, tense or easily startledAvoiding people, places, conversations or situations that remind you of what happenedStrong emotional reactions that feel difficult to understand or controlFeeling emotionally numb, disconnected or detached from yourself or othersDifficulties with trust, relationships or feeling safe with othersRepeating patterns that you understand logically but still find difficult to change [ENQUIRE ABOUT TRAUMA & EMDR THERAPY]

What Is EMDR Therapy and How Does It Help?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured psychotherapy approach used to help people process distressing memories and experiences that continue to trigger strong emotional or physical reactions. Rather than focusing only on talking about what happened, EMDR works with how these experiences are still being activated in the present, with the aim of reducing their emotional intensity and helping you respond to them in a more manageable way.
What Can EMDR Therapy Help With?
EMDR therapy may be helpful when past experiences continue to affect how you feel, respond or relate in the present. It may be used to support difficulties such as:
Trauma and post-traumatic stress symptomsDistressing or intrusive memoriesEmotional triggers linked to past experiencesFear, anxiety or heightened alertness following difficult experiencesTraumatic grief and distressing aspects of bereavementBetrayal, relationship trauma or attachment-related experiencesNegative beliefs about yourself that developed following painful experiencesStrong emotional reactions that feel connected to something from the past

What to Expect in EMDR Therapy
EMDR therapy begins with understanding what you are experiencing and whether this approach is appropriate for you. Before processing distressing memories, we spend time building emotional stability, identifying coping resources and preparing you for the work ahead. When you are ready, EMDR may involve focusing briefly on aspects of a distressing memory while using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements. The process is paced according to your needs, and you remain aware and in control throughout the session.

Is EMDR Therapy Right for Me?
EMDR may be suitable if distressing memories or past experiences continue to trigger strong emotional or physical reactions, even when you understand that the experience is already over. It is not automatically the right approach for everyone. We will first explore what you are experiencing, your current needs and your readiness for trauma processing, and then decide together whether EMDR may be appropriate for you. You do not need to know whether you need EMDR before reaching out.
Sessions are available in English and Mandarin, in person in Singapore and online for clients in Singapore and overseas.
Not Sure What Type of Counselling You Need?
You do not need to label what you are experiencing or decide which type of counselling you need before contacting me.
